Indian Institute of Cartoonists announce the result of the Maya Kamath Memorial Awards Competition for excellence in Cartooning – 2008 and Best Budding Cartoonist.
We are elated, as we got overwhelming support from all the corners of the country, from Jammu & Kashmir to Kerala. We had received 64 entries for Best Political Cartoons contest and 15 entries for Best Budding Cartoonist contest. The jury members had a difficult time to select the best of them. They have selected 5 best cartoonists of India.
Opinion of Jury members:
The entries received for the above awards included caricatures and political cartoons. The jury decided to consider only cartoons.
Out of the entries, many had very good drawing but not equally matched by ideas. There was also an entry from Muhammad Zahoor from Peshawar, Pakistan for which the jury decided to give a special prize.
We also decided to consider the cartoonist on the basis of entries submitted and not on particular cartoon.
The final entries were chosen based on ideas, draughtmanship and humour.
